Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Shreyas Iyer for his stunning catch that dismissed Alex Carey in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). In the 30th over, Carey mistimed his shot. Shreyas reacted quickly, sprinted from backward point, leaped at the perfect moment, and grabbed the ball cleanly. His effort ended a crucial 59-run partnership with Matthew Renshaw.
Ashwin posted on X, “Incredible catch @ShreyasIyer15.”
Injury Scare After the Catch
Shreyas landed awkwardly after taking the catch and hurt his left side. He showed visible discomfort as teammates gathered around him. The medical team rushed in and gave him on-field treatment. Soon after, he walked off with support.
His injury added to India’s list of concerns. Nitish Kumar Reddy had already missed the match due to a quadriceps injury from the second ODI in Adelaide. The BCCI said the medical staff is monitoring him daily.
India’s XI Gets Two Changes
Before the match, India replaced Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy with Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav. Arshdeep didn’t play after suffering cramps in the previous match. The board gave no official update on his fitness.
Kohli and Rohit Steer India to Easy Win
India didn’t need Shreyas to bat. Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 121, while Virat Kohli stayed not out on 74. Their fluent partnership chased down 237 with ease. India won the match by nine wickets and finished the series 2–1.
