Lana Says John Cena Changed Her WWE Career

Lana reveals how John Cena changed her WWE career forever as she reflects on working with him ahead of John Cena’s retirement on December 13. Cena will end his in-ring run at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., marking the close of a legendary WWE chapter.

Before his farewell, Lana shared emotional memories about Cena’s influence on her growth in WWE. Speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight, she recalled learning vital lessons while managing Rusev during his 2015 feud with Cena for the United States Championship.

Lana Details Cena’s Guidance and Risk-Taking Advice

Lana explained that Cena helped her understand timing and crowd reactions during live matches. She revealed that Cena taught her to pause, listen, and adjust her performance with confidence.

Grateful for his mentorship, Lana said:

“Working with John Cena, I’m forever thankful for. I learned so much and I think it really carried into my in-ring wrestling because I knew sound. So like John Cena is another person calling all the spots, right? I’ll never forget when the ‘We want Lana’ thing started, and it started at live events. (…) John would always give us, always say, ‘You have to take calculated risk.’ And then he’s like, ‘Then if it doesn’t go as planned, you have to take ownership and say, ‘Sorry, that was my bad. Going to do something different next time,'” Lana said.

Though Lana did not appear on Cena’s farewell tour, Rusev participated in The Last Time Is Now Tournament, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to Jey Uso.

Rusev Doesn’t Believe Cena Is Retiring for Good

Rusev shared his own thoughts about Cena’s retirement plans. Despite Cena insisting December 13 will be his final match, Rusev remains doubtful.

“I don’t believe it. I’m not holding my breath. I love John and this may be his last match of this century or whatnot, but at some point I want to see him back, whenever that is,” Rusev said on the SHAK Wrestling podcast. [H/T: Sports Illustrated]

Several WWE legends, including Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, and Steve Austin, have returned after retirement. Cena, however, now thrives in Hollywood, making a return uncertain.

But in WWE, anything can happen—so fans may still hope for one more Cena comeback.
