British stars Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper will compete against each other in the US Open mixed doubles 2025. The new-format event takes place on 19-20 August in New York, just days before the singles action begins on 24 August.
New Pairs Announced
Raducanu, 22, joins five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz. Draper, 23, plays alongside American world number four Jessica Pegula. Their original partners, Tommy Paul and Paula Badosa, withdrew from the competition.
Tournament organisers confirmed earlier this year that the mixed doubles would be a standalone event before singles. The move drew criticism, but the line-up still features some of the sport’s biggest names. Sixteen pairs will compete for a prize pool of $1m (£749,077).
Raducanu, who famously captured the US Open in 2021, and Alcaraz received a wildcard entry. Draper and Pegula, both ranked inside the singles top five, secured direct entry and top seeding.
Format and Schedule
The first two rounds begin on Tuesday, with semi-finals and the final scheduled for Wednesday. Matches will follow shorter rules to increase pace and excitement. Players need just four games to win a set before the final. Each game uses no-advantage scoring, requiring four points to win. If players split sets, a 10-point match tie-break will decide the contest.
This faster scoring format should deliver more intense rallies and potential upsets across the two-day competition.
Alcaraz and Sinner Headline Star Power
Alcaraz enters New York after facing world number one Jannik Sinner in the Cincinnati Open final. The clash marks their fourth meeting this season. Sinner, 24, also features in the mixed doubles draw. He will now play with Czech doubles expert Katerina Siniakova after Emma Navarro pulled out.
British fans can look forward to an exciting showdown as Raducanu and Draper fight for glory on opposite sides. With top players, high stakes, and a fresh format, the US Open mixed doubles is set to grab global attention.
