Daniil Medvedev is preparing for a much-needed reset at the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open 2025. After a turbulent season that dropped him to No. 18 in the PIF ATP Rankings, the Russian is chasing the consistency that once carried him to the top of men’s tennis.
The 2020 Nitto ATP Finals winner heads into Hangzhou without longtime mentor Gilles Cervara. Following his early defeat at the US Open to Benjamin Bonzi, Medvedev ended their partnership and has now teamed up with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke.
“It’s not been an easy decision, but I’m happy to try with them for the remainder of the season and then for the [next] season, I’m going to see how it goes,” Medvedev explained.
“I love the way they work. I love what they say, and it’s an interesting new project in my career.”
Recharge Before Asian Swing
Instead of immediately returning to competition after New York, Daniil Medvedev opted for a two-week pause. He resumed training in Monte-Carlo, focusing on rebuilding intensity ahead of the Asian tournaments.
“I [did] not play tennis for like two weeks after the US Open because I knew that even next tournament is going to be in some time,” he said.
“Had a very good week of practice last week. I played some of my best tennis this year, maybe my best tennis. And the goal would be to try to recreate this on the court, because if I’m going to be able to do it, I’m going to be able to win tournaments or play good tennis and that’s most important for me.”
Path at Hangzhou Open
The 29-year-old arrives as the second seed in Hangzhou. His first challenge will come against either American qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy or defending champion Marin Cilic. So far in 2025, Medvedev owns a 26-18 record on the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
For Medvedev, this event is not only about defending ranking points but also about restoring belief. With a new coaching team and renewed energy, he hopes the Hangzhou Open will signal the start of a late-season surge.
