Top-ranked Jannik Sinner and Spanish ace Carlos Alcaraz are set to face off in the Cincinnati Open 2025 final. Both advanced with straight-set victories, setting up their fourth title clash of the season.
Sinner, who turned 24 on Saturday, dismissed qualifier Terence Atmane 7-6 (7/4), 6-2. The Wimbledon champion has not dropped a set this week and now aims to defend his Cincinnati crown, a feat last achieved by Roger Federer a decade ago.
“It’s a very, very tough challenge every time you play a new opponent,” Sinner said. “In the later stages of the tournament, the pressure is on, they deserve to be there.”
Alcaraz Overcomes Zverev to Reach Second Cincinnati Final
Carlos Alcaraz sealed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Alexander Zverev in humid conditions. Zverev, struggling with heat and health issues, took a medical timeout but finished the match. Alcaraz now leads the ATP Tour with 53 match wins this season.
“We started well with good rallies, a good level,” Alcaraz said. “All of a sudden he felt bad and I was thinking more about how he was feeling instead of playing good tennis. It was tough and I just wish him all the best.”
The Spaniard, who lost the Cincinnati final to Novak Djokovic in 2023, is eager for revenge after Sinner defeated him at Wimbledon last month.
“We always bring our best tennis. We raise each other’s level. I’m ready to take the challenge,” Alcaraz added.
Sinner Focused Ahead of US Open Challenge
Sinner showed composure against Atmane, taking control of the tiebreak and breaking serve twice in the second set. His victory extended a winning streak over French players that dates back to 2021.
“My experience helped in the first set,” Sinner said. “I’m very happy to go through to another final. The pressure was on me. That’s normal in the position where I am in — he was ready to fight.”
“My goal has always been the US Open, But we have put in the work here, in the gym and in practice. I just hope to be ready for New York.”
The Cincinnati Open 2025 final between Sinner and Alcaraz promises another thrilling chapter in their growing rivalry.
