Belinda Bencic reached the 2025 Pan Pacific Open final after a thrilling 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-2 victory over Sofia Kenin on Saturday in Tokyo. Playing under the Ariake Coliseum roof due to rain, Bencic produced a composed performance to set up a title clash with Linda Noskova.
This will be her second appearance in the Pan Pacific Open final, exactly a decade after her first. The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist now aims to claim her second title of the season.
Intense Start and Kenin’s Comeback
In the opening set, both players held serve for 12 straight games. Bencic then turned up the intensity in the tiebreak, sealing it with a forehand winner. Kenin responded with power in the second set, breaking serve in the fourth game. She overcame a brief wobble on serve to level the match at one set each.
Bencic reflected on the intensity of the contest, saying, “I think it was a very difficult match. I’m really exhausted at this point. I tried to shorten the points, take more risks and try to go for it. Thankfully today it went my way.”
Bencic Dominates Decider as Noskova Awaits
In the final set, Bencic broke early for a 3–1 lead after a series of unforced errors from Kenin. From there, she stayed in control, using aggressive returns and precise serving to wrap up the victory and secure her place in Sunday’s final.
Her opponent, Linda Noskova, advanced after Elena Rybakina withdrew with a back injury. Noskova, who recently finished runner-up at the China Open, will target her second WTA title after winning Monterrey last year.
With both players in top form, the Pan Pacific Open final in Tokyo promises a high-stakes battle. Bencic will look to end her 10-year wait for the Tokyo crown, while Noskova aims to continue her breakout season.
