Cameron Green

Cameron Donald Green (born 3 June 1999, Perth) is a 6’6” right-hand batter and right-arm fast-medium all-rounder who represents Australia across formats and Western Australia in domestic cricket. After debuting in 2020, Green has grown into a key multi-role player: a middle-order Test batter capable of long innings, a flexible white-ball finisher or top-order accelerator, and a reliable seam option who attacks the stumps. He was a squad member for Australia’s title-winning campaigns in the 2023 World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup, and he featured in Australia’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad as a utility all-rounder. Known for his calm temperament, towering physique, and technical versatility, Green is widely regarded as one of Australia’s long-term all-format pillars.

Early Life

Green grew up in Subiaco, Perth, and came through the Subiaco-Floreat pathway. He was precocious: WACA first-grade at 16, a rookie WACA contract the following year off the back of standout Under-19s numbers (averaging 82 with the bat and 20 wickets in eight games). He made his List-A debut for a Cricket Australia XI against Pakistan in January 2017 and a first-class debut a month later, where he grabbed 5/24 in the first innings—becoming the youngest Sheffield Shield bowler to take a five-for. His early rise was a combination of raw talent, discipline, and support from Western Australia’s cricket system.

Personal Life

In December 2023, Green publicly shared that he has lived with stage-two chronic kidney disease since birth—an irreversible condition he manages carefully. He said doctors once feared he might not live beyond 12, but he has been able to compete at elite level with regular monitoring. Off the field, Green is known for his humble and grounded personality. He avoids the limelight, often crediting family support and teammates for his success, and has been described by coaches as hardworking and level-headed despite the hype surrounding his career.

Domestic Career

A teenaged Green initially broke through as a swing-bowling prodigy with Western Australia (2016–17), but recurrent back stress injuries nudged him toward batting responsibility—triggering a rapid transformation into a genuine batting all-rounder. He piled up 699 Shield runs at 63.54 in 2019–20, then 922 at 76.83 in 2020–21, cementing his status as one of Australia’s brightest first-class batters. He also turned out in the BBL for Perth Scorchers (debut January 2019). In 2025 he signed a short County Championship stint with Gloucestershire and struck three centuries in five games, underlining his red-ball ceiling ahead of Australia duties. As of August 2025, his overall first-class ledger sits at 70 matches, 4,527 runs at 47.15 with 14 hundreds, plus 77 wickets. His dominance in Shield cricket made him a natural choice for higher honours.

Test Career

Green debuted in the Adelaide day-night Test against India in December 2020. His all-round arc includes a Boxing Day breakthrough—5/27 against South Africa at the MCG (2022)—and a maiden Test hundred (114) at Ahmedabad (2023). A pivotal leap came in March 2024 at Wellington, where promoted to No. 4 he carried the batting with a chanceless 174* against New Zealand, a career-defining innings hailed for its balance of discipline and counterpunch. By 2025, he had become a player Australia trusted in crisis situations, delivering both with the bat and the ball.

ODI Career

Green’s ODI debut came in December 2020 versus India. His ODI skill set—late-order acceleration, seam bowling that targets the stumps—was showcased with a maiden five-for (5/33) against Zimbabwe at Townsville in August 2022. He later produced his first ODI hundred, an unbeaten 118* against South Africa at Mackay on 24 August 2025, in a game where Travis Head, Mitch Marsh and Green all tonned up. His ability to finish innings with power or rebuild when wickets fall makes him a rare asset for Australia in limited-overs cricket.

T20I Career

Green’s T20I game burst into life in India (September 2022): a blistering 61 (30) at Mohali and 52 (21) at Hyderabad advertised his six-hitting power in the powerplay. Selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup, he offered Australia a plug-and-play option—bat anywhere from opener to finisher and contribute two-overs of heavy seam when required. By 2025, he had established himself as a flexible T20I player who can adapt to team needs.

IPL Career

Mumbai Indians paid ₹17.50 crore for Green at the 2023 auction—the second-highest auction price that year—and he struck an unbeaten maiden IPL hundred (100*) against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede. Ahead of IPL 2024, MI traded him to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in an all-cash deal; he featured for RCB in 2024 with flexible batting roles and handy middle-overs pace. His IPL career reflects his reputation as one of the most valuable young overseas all-rounders in the tournament.
