Early Life and Background

Born on 5 February 1999 in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, Arshdeep Singh comes from a Punjabi Jatt Sikh family. His father Darshan Singh served in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The family later moved to Kharar near Chandigarh. Arshdeep studied at Guru Nanak Public School and cycled 13 kilometers daily for cricket practice. His humble beginnings in gully cricket soon turned into formal training at Jaswant Rai’s cricket academy in 2015.

Domestic Career: Building the Foundation

Under-19 and Junior Cricket

Arshdeep Singh was part of the victorious Indian squad at the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He later represented India U-23 and played the Katoch Shield, which gained him early attention.

In 2018, during the CK Nayudu Trophy, he grabbed headlines by taking 8 wickets in a single innings against Rajasthan U23, including a hat-trick. He followed it up by taking 10 wickets in that match — a clear sign of his rising talent.

List A and First-Class Debuts

  • List A Debut: 19 September 2018 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

  • First-Class Debut: January 2019 against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy.

He continued his stellar performances with consistent bowling for Punjab in the domestic circuit.

Indian Premier League (IPL) Career

Arshdeep Singh was signed by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the 2019 IPL auction. His T20 debut came on 16 April 2019. He soon became the team’s second-highest wicket-taker that season, proving himself in pressure situations.

Over the years, his death-over bowling and economical spells made him a regular feature in the team. In IPL 2023, he broke two stumps in one over against Mumbai Indians, a rare and expensive moment widely shared on social media.

In IPL 2025, he became the highest-paid pace bowler, with Punjab Kings using the Right to Match (RTM) card to secure him for ₹18 crore. He also became the highest wicket-taker in PBKS history in April 2025.

Arshdeep made his T20I debut against England on 7 July 2022 at Southampton. He bowled a maiden over and picked up two wickets, becoming the third Indian to bowl a maiden in T20I debut.

T20 World Cup 2024: Making History

In the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, Arshdeep Singh picked up 17 wickets, a joint-record for the most wickets in a single edition. He was named T20I Cricketer of the Year by ICC and was included in the ICC T20I Team of the Year.
