Swansea City have signed Celtic striker Adam Idah for an undisclosed fee. The initial amount is believed to be £6m. The transfer makes Idah, 24, the most expensive signing by Swansea outside the Premier League. The fee could eventually rise to £7m. The Republic of Ireland forward has signed a five-year contract with the Championship club.
“Adam’s all-round ability and his experience at the highest level make him a quality addition to our squad, and his signing is an indication of our ambitions for the club moving forward,” said Swansea head coach Alan Sheehan.
“He is an ambitious young player who wants to play a big role in what we are trying to build at Swansea, and his movement and ability to stretch defences will be a real asset to us.”
Swansea Secure Long-Term Striker Target
Swansea spent the summer searching for a new centre-forward. Several preferred options joined rival clubs. Sheehan eventually landed his man after an agreement with Celtic was reached last week. The Scottish club delayed the transfer over the weekend. They then finalised Idah’s move on Monday.
The Cork-born striker departs Celtic after scoring 29 goals in 76 games across two spells in Glasgow. He first arrived on loan in 2023-24. He then signed permanently last summer for a reported fee of £9.5m.
Idah began his career at Norwich City, where he progressed through the academy. He scored 17 goals in 116 appearances for the Canaries. Of those, 39 came as starts in the first team.
Swansea’s Ambition in the Transfer Market
“We have wanted to add to Alan’s forward options during this window and a lot of hard work has gone in to trying to find a player who was the right person and the right fit for that role,” said Swansea director of football Richard Montague.
“Adam has a wealth of senior experience, including at the highest level of European club competition, and we expect him to make a considerable impact for Swansea City.”
Idah now links up with Slovenia striker Zan Vipotnik, who will remain at Swansea. Vipotnik had been linked with a move if Idah joined. The club confirmed he is staying after producing his best form early this season.
Swansea are also working on other deals. They want Strasbourg left-back Ishe Samuels-Smith. A winger is also being targeted, with Burnley’s Manuel Benson a strong option. The club also looked at Hull’s Abu Kamara, who joined Getafe. Sunderland’s Patrick Roberts was another target but he signed for Birmingham City.
Three players have left Swansea on loan. Ollie Cooper joined Wigan. Filip Lissah signed for Falkirk. Joel Cotterill moved to Bristol Rovers.
