Exeter City vs Burton Albion postponed after stadium fire at St James Park — Exeter City have postponed their League One fixture against Burton Albion after a fire left essential safety systems at St James Park unusable. The damage made it impossible for the club to meet matchday safety standards.
Damage Impact and Safety Concerns
The blaze destroyed the stadium’s control room and cut electricity to the Adam Stansfield Stand. It also affected the public address system, fire alarms, first aid facilities, and internal network operations. The team immediately began repairs and launched a crowdfunding drive to support urgent expenses before insurance coverage arrives.
The club explained the situation in a statement: “Despite the extraordinary efforts of club staff, volunteers and local businesses, we are unable to complete the extensive repairs required, or to carry out the essential safety testing needed to ensure all systems are operating safely for our supporters and players,” the club said.
They added: “Repair work will continue at pace as we aim to restore the stadium to full operation as quickly as possible.
“Everyone at Exeter City would like to thank our incredible supporters for their unwavering backing during this difficult time. We are stronger together.”
The club confirmed that the new date for the Exeter City vs Burton Albion clash will be announced once the stadium is safe to operate again.
