Arne Slot under fire after Liverpool’s heavy 4-1 defeat to PSV has intensified concerns about his future at Anfield. The club has now fallen into its worst run in 71 years, losing nine of their last twelve games. The sudden dip looks shocking, especially after finishing last season as Premier League champions.
Liverpool’s summer spending crossed £450m, including the British-record £125m move for Alexander Isak. But the new-look squad has struggled to settle, and the Reds sit 12th in the league and 13th in the Champions League league phase.
Josh Sexton of the Anfield Wrap highlighted the growing frustration among supporters.
“Liverpool seem to keep finding ways to hit new lows under Arne Slot, and of course, that is leading to questions around the manager’s future,” he said.
He added that the pressure is expected at a club of Liverpool’s stature.
Fans Still Split Over Slot’s Future
Replacing Jurgen Klopp was always a monumental task, and Slot surprised many by delivering the league title in his debut season. That success still earns him patience from a section of the fanbase. Sexton said he remains willing to give the manager more time.
“I do not mind giving him the chance to have a go [at fixing this],” he said. He believes Slot pushed the team ahead of schedule and deserves faith during a turbulent phase.
Liverpool dominated last season, finishing ten points ahead of Arsenal. But this campaign has unraveled quickly. Sexton admitted mixed feelings about the possibility of a dismissal.
“If they were to sack him, I would be gutted… but I would equally understand and try to trust the decision that had been taken,” he added.
Slot Responds to Pressure Ahead of Key Fixtures
Slot addressed the growing noise after the PSV loss and insisted he still feels supported. “I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,” he said.
He accepted the scrutiny that comes with poor results. “It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
Liverpool face West Ham, Sunderland, and Leeds in their next three matches. These fixtures may define Slot’s immediate future.
“In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see,” he admitted.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher expressed anger at the squad rather than the manager. “I have always been in the camp that you stick with the manager… I’m angry with the players,” he said.
Carragher reminded fans that patience has historically been part of Liverpool’s identity. “Liverpool’s not a sacking club… But it does get to a stage for any manager at a club where it’s untenable.”
For now, the tension around Arne Slot grows, and the upcoming fixtures could determine whether Liverpool stand by their manager or prepare for a decisive change.
