RP Singh has stressed that India must carefully manage Mohammed Siraj’s workload to prevent injuries. Siraj topped the wicket-taking chart in India’s recent 2-2 draw with England, claiming 23 wickets.
“Workload management is essential to keep Siraj injury-free,” Singh said in an interview with PTI-Bhasha. “Fast bowlers are at higher risk when they play too many matches in a short period. We must manage his workload, just like we did with Bumrah.”
Singh highlighted how Bumrah’s successful workload management helped him shine in both the ODI and T20 World Cups.
Siraj’s Crucial Contribution in England Series
Singh praised Mohammed Siraj for his stellar efforts throughout the England series. “Siraj played all five Tests, maintaining intensity and energy,” Singh noted. Siraj took nine wickets in the fifth Test, including a five-wicket haul, helping India win by six runs.
Singh said, “His fitness and rhythm were excellent. Siraj contributed far beyond expectations.” He also highlighted Siraj’s final delivery of the series, which sealed India’s victory. “The last ball was one of his top five fastest deliveries,” Singh added.
The Partnership Between Siraj and Bumrah
Singh emphasized the strong partnership between Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. “Bowlers, like batsmen, work well in partnerships,” he explained. “Siraj builds pressure from one end while Bumrah takes wickets with his unique action.”
Singh also addressed Bumrah’s limited role in the England series, confirming it was pre-planned. “Bumrah always delivers wickets when he plays,” Singh said.
Proposal for Injury Replacement in Cricket
Singh proposed that teams should have the option of replacing injured players during matches. “A neutral doctor or physio should decide whether a player is fit to continue,” Singh explained. He believes this would ensure fairness and allow teams to replace injured players with similar-level substitutes.
