Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer will link up with the Indian squad in New Delhi before the much-awaited Australia tour. The series will include three ODIs and five T20Is starting later this month.
As per PTI, the team’s departure is planned in two separate batches on October 15. The decision will depend on travel logistics and business class seat availability. One group will take an early flight, while the other will travel in the evening.
Kohli and Rohit, who are currently not part of the West Indies Tests, are expected to land in the capital shortly before departure.
“Virat and Rohit will touch down in the capital either on the day of departure or a day prior,” a BCCI source told PTI.
Tour Begins with ODI Series in Perth
The squad will first travel to Perth, where the opening ODI is scheduled for October 19. The series will then shift to a five-match T20I leg.
Despite the chatter about their ODI future, both Rohit and Kohli remain part of the setup. This will be their first international assignment since the Champions Trophy earlier this year. The ODI captaincy has now moved to Shubman Gill, who will lead the side.
Iyer to Play Key Role as Vice-Captain
Shreyas Iyer has been appointed vice-captain for the ODI series. He will have a pivotal role as India builds its white-ball unit under Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir has also hosted a team dinner at his Rajinder Nagar residence to strengthen team bonding before the long overseas campaign.
Players currently engaged in domestic or international games may get a brief break before they rejoin the squad.
Australia Series Crucial for World Cup Preparation
This Australia tour is expected to play a big part in shaping India’s approach for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Senior stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will aim to leave their mark in this important series.
