Karthik Recalls Last-Over Moments and Virat’s Confusion

India needed 16 runs to win. The last over started with Mohammad Nawaz bowling to Virat Kohli. Karthik admitted Kohli didn’t know where the ball had gone after hitting the stumps. “Virat didn’t know where the ball went, so I had to alert him at that stage,” Karthik said.

Kohli took three runs on a free-hit delivery after being bowled. Two runs were needed off the final delivery. It was then Karthik’s turn, but he was stumped after missing his signature slog sweep.

“I was shocked because it’s a shot I normally play,” Karthik said. “I knew the bowler would bowl into my pads, and the field was set for it.”

Ashwin’s Calmness Seals the Victory for India

After Karthik’s dismissal, Ravichandran Ashwin came in to bat. Ashwin calmly left the ball down the leg side, bringing the equation down to one run to win. Karthik praised Ashwin’s approach:

“Ashwin came in and played a bit of gully cricket and got it done quite nicely,” he said. “He’s so used to doing this in gully cricket.”

Ashwin sealed the win with a shot over mid-off. India won by four wickets, and the MCG erupted in celebration.

Karthik’s Mental State During Kohli-Pandya Partnership

Karthik shared his thoughts while Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were at the crease. “I was just hoping the partnership works out,” Karthik said. “I kept calculating the overs. magined myself batting with either Hardik or Virat.”
