The on-field spat between Prithvi Shaw and Musheer Khan during the three-day warm-up fixture between Maharashtra and Mumbai is set to be examined closely. Dilip Vengsarkar, former India captain and advisor to the Mumbai selection committee, will review the incident once the official report is submitted on October 9.
The flashpoint came after Shaw’s impressive 181-run innings. His dismissal by Musheer led to a verbal exchange, sparked when Musheer said “Thank You” after getting him out. Shaw, clearly angered, swung his bat toward the bowler. He then got into a heated argument before the umpires stepped in to calm the situation.
“There will be a (Mumbai Ranji team) selection committee meeting on Thursday, so we will ask the Mumbai captain, coach, and the player about what happened,” Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap told Mid-Day.
“We will be getting a report of this incident during our selection committee meeting, and former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar, who is our advisor, will speak to the players.”
MCA and Mumbai Selection Panel to Review Report
The Maharashtra Cricket Association is also expected to take necessary action based on the findings. “I’m still awaiting the report on the incident. I will be obtaining detailed information about it, and if something is found, depending on the gravity of the situation and considering the importance of discipline, we will speak to both players (Shaw and Musheer). Discipline among players is a very important aspect,” said Adv Kamlesh Pisal, secretary of the MCA.
Shaw’s knock came off 140 balls, anchoring a massive total as Maharashtra reached 465/3 in 81 overs before declaring. His partnership with Arshin Kulkarni frustrated Mumbai’s bowlers for much of the innings.
Bawne Calls It a Minor Incident
Maharashtra skipper Ankit Bawne attempted to downplay the controversy, describing it as a momentary flare-up between former teammates.
“It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all ok now and there is no issue,” Bawne told Cricbuzz.
