Rajasthan Royals’ High Performance Director Zubin Bharucha has urged chief selector Ajit Agarkar to consider teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the senior Indian team. The 14-year-old left-hander from Bihar has already shown explosive batting skills in IPL 2025 and youth cricket.
Bharucha believes Suryavanshi’s rare talent deserves early recognition — much like Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted for India at 16 in 1989. “He should be blooded into the senior team immediately, like Sachin was all those years ago,” Bharucha told Times of India.
A Rapid Rise in Cricket
Suryavanshi caught everyone’s attention when he smashed the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history. He reached three figures in only 35 balls against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans. Soon after, he scored the quickest hundred in youth ODIs against England at Worcester.
The young prodigy started his first-class career at 12. He made headlines by scoring a century against Australia U-19 in a Youth Test. That knock helped him land an IPL contract worth INR 1.10 crore with Rajasthan Royals. Despite touring England and Australia with the India U-19 team, he still awaits a call-up to India A.
Bharucha Urges Immediate India A Call-Up
Bharucha insists selectors must move quickly to nurture this talent. “They have to blood this guy immediately, boss, because he is in another zone only. At least send him on an India A tour. Send him to India A immediately. I’m telling you, this Australian attack that is here, bowling to India A guys, he would have got a double hundred,” he said.
Fearless Against Jofra Archer
Bharucha shared a story that shows Suryavanshi’s fearless approach. The teenager faced Jofra Archer confidently during an IPL net session.
“He smoked Jofra Archer in the nets. Jofra Archer, when he bowls in the nets, he’s a demon. He never bowls a warm-up ball when the batter is there. He absolutely charges in. And actually, Jofra Archer knocked off Steve Smith’s head in a practice session we had before the Ashes. Smith was struggling against him. From that day onwards, he never went inside the net when Jofra was bowling,” said Bharucha.
“When he was bowling to Vaibhav, I was scared, and this boy hit one shot on the back foot, and it went out of the stadium. All the coaching staff, even Jofra, were stunned,” he added.
A Star Ready to Shine
Suryavanshi has already delivered stunning performances at a very young age. His fearless batting against top-class bowlers proves his potential. If selectors act on Bharucha’s advice, cricket fans might soon watch the teenager wear the Indian jersey — just as Sachin Tendulkar did over three decades ago.
