Roddick Backs Karolina Muchova as 2026 Slam Threat

Karolina Muchova has emerged as a strong 2026 Grand Slam contender, according to Andy Roddick. The former world No 1 believes Muchova can push the leading names like Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff if she remains injury-free.

The 2025 season saw different champions at each major. Madison Keys captured the Australian Open. Coco Gauff dominated Paris. Iga Swiatek claimed the Wimbledon trophy, while Aryna Sabalenka secured the US Open crown. Elena Rybakina also delivered an outstanding finish by winning the WTA Finals without losing a match. Amanda Anisimova played both the Wimbledon and US Open finals, confirming her rise.

Roddick Adds Muchova to the List of 2026 Title Challengers

Roddick feels the usual contenders will stay competitive in 2026. Sabalenka completed the year as world No 1. Swiatek followed at No 2, while Gauff, Anisimova and Rybakina filled the next three spots. Yet the American believes one more name deserves attention.

On his Served with Roddick podcast, he said: “Karolina Muchova. She is an amazing player. The only thing separating her from the top five is health.

“She can bother everyone. I think she is on my top five list of people who could win a Slam next year.”

Muchova already owns a strong Grand Slam record. She reached the 2023 French Open final and pushed Swiatek to three sets. She has played two US Open semi-finals and one Australian Open semi-final. At Wimbledon, she made the quarter-finals in 2019 and 2021, although recent results have been inconsistent.

Injuries Halted Momentum but Form Returned in 2025

A severe wrist injury disrupted her progress and forced her out of both the 2024 Australian Open and French Open. That absence dropped her out of the top 50. However, she slowly rebuilt her form during the late stages of 2024 and maintained steady progress throughout 2025.

Muchova finished the 2025 season ranked No 19. Her improved fitness and consistency have renewed belief in her potential. Many expect her to return as a genuine threat on every surface next year.

Roddick’s confidence adds weight to that expectation. If she stays healthy, Muchova could join the elite group chasing Grand Slam glory in 2026.
