Pirelli has announced the official Pirelli F1 2026 tyres, confirming the compounds that will be supplied to all 11 teams next season. The manufacturer finalised the selection after analysing recent test data and preparing for the major regulation shift arriving in 2026.
Pirelli Drops C6 and Finalises C1–C5 Range
Next season will continue the three-compound race format, but the overall range changes. Pirelli will provide tyres only from C1 to C5, removing the C6 compound entirely. The company reached this decision after detailed analysis and FIA approval.
Pirelli explained their development process: “Tyre development was carried out on the basis of forecast data as supplied by the teams, using simulations referring to loads and speeds predicted for the end of the 2026 season, while pursuing objectives similar to those of this year.
“The models were validated based on the results of development track testing with mule cars modified to reproduce the characteristics of the next generation of cars.”
Why the C6 Compound Will Not Return
The C6 tyre appeared this season at circuits like Imola, Monaco, Canada and Azerbaijan. Pirelli found that the difference between C5 and C6 was too small to offer real strategic value. This led to the decision to exclude the compound from the 2026 lineup.
Tyres Become Narrower Under 2026 F1 Rules
The 2026 design package introduces narrower 18-inch tyres. Pirelli believes the updated structure suits the new car concept and will help teams manage the revised aerodynamics.
Final Tyre Test Scheduled for Abu Dhabi
Teams will test the 2026 compounds on December 9 in Abu Dhabi. Full-time drivers will run the new tyres, while young drivers will use the 2025 versions on current cars. Three rounds of pre-season testing will follow, giving teams enough time to understand behaviour, wear, and performance before the 2026 season opener in Australia on March 8.
A Crucial Step Before the 2026 Regulations
With the compounds now confirmed, teams can begin preparing setups and simulations for the coming regulation overhaul. Pirelli is confident that the new tyre family offers a balanced mix of grip, durability, and consistency for the sport’s next phase.
