Lewis Hamilton news headlines surged again ahead of the Las Vegas GP after the Ferrari driver addressed John Elkann’s recent remarks. The Ferrari chairman had urged Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to “focus on driving and talk less” following the team’s double retirement in Sao Paulo. The setback pushed Ferrari to fourth place in the constructors’ standings, increasing pressure on the team.
Hamilton Says Racing Dominates His Thoughts
Reporters asked Hamilton whether he needed to concentrate more on his driving. He firmly dismissed that suggestion.
“Not really. I wake up thinking about it, and I go to sleep thinking about it, and I think about it when I’m sleeping,” he said.
Hamilton even mentioned that disconnecting is harder for him than staying focused. “If anything, I have to focus on being able to unplug more. It’s been a really heavy year. It’s been the busiest year that I think I’ve had. I’ve been at the factory more than I think I was at any other factory before.”
Hamilton Says He Understands Elkann’s Intentions
Although Elkann’s words created debate, Hamilton stressed that he did not feel targeted. “I know where John’s intentions are. We speak sometimes several times a week, so we have spoken several times since last week. It’s all about bringing the team together and we are all really together.”
Hamilton praised Ferrari’s passion. “The passion just runs so deep. But I love that and I can never fault someone for having passion like that.”
A Challenging First Season in Red
Hamilton’s move from Mercedes to Ferrari has not delivered the results he hoped for. He currently stands sixth in the 2025 drivers’ championship and has found the season mentally demanding.
“There’s just been so much to do and so much to learn. It’s like we’re climbing up a mountain, then you arrive at the weekend and you kind of slip a few steps back or 10 steps back.”
Despite this, his belief in the project remains strong. “I’ve backed this team 100% and I back myself 100%. I know that when we get things right, it’s going to be amazing.”
He also issued a subtle challenge to the media. “I can’t wait for that moment because I’d love to see what you’re going to write after that.”
Hamilton Still Feels the Ferrari Magic
The difficult season has not diluted Hamilton’s excitement about joining Ferrari. “I still pinch myself, honestly, that I’m in red, that I get to drive a Ferrari,” he said.
He emphasised that rebuilding such a large organisation takes time. “You can’t fix it in the click of a finger. It takes real time.”
Leclerc Shares His Conversation With Elkann
Charles Leclerc also reacted to Elkann’s comments and revealed that he received a call from the Ferrari chairman immediately after the Sao Paulo weekend.
“John called me to catch up and said the message he wanted to send was a positive one, that we want to do better,” Leclerc said.
He added that improvement remains his priority. “I have always tried my best. I will try to do better. That is the priority in the team and what we want to do.”
