EA Sports has decided not to create a separate Formula 1 2026 game, choosing instead to roll out a paid expansion for F1 25 that includes updated 2026 cars, teams, and regulations. This shift allows the studio to focus resources on a completely refreshed F1 2027 title, which aims to deliver a redesigned experience from visuals to gameplay.
Motorsport has asked EA Sports whether the new expansion will feature the Madring, the Madrid street circuit debuting next season. EA has not provided confirmation yet.
“F1 25 has been an incredible success, fuelled by the passion of fans and the energy of the sport,” said Lee Mather, senior creative director at Codemasters. “With Formula 1’s momentum on and off the track, now is the perfect time for us to look ahead and build for the future.
“We’re fully committed to the EA Sports F1 franchise. Our multi-year plan extends this year’s excitement with the 2026 expansion and reimagines the F1 experience for 2027 to deliver even more for players at every level around the world.”
Why EA Sports Is Delaying a Standalone F1 2026 Release
The timing aligns with Formula 1’s major rule changes for 2026, which introduce hybrid power unit upgrades, a stronger focus on electric deployment, and active aerodynamics. These elements will drastically influence driving dynamics.
Instead of fast-tracking a new title, EA Sports wants enough time to study how the 2026 cars behave under the revised rules. This approach reduces the risk of inaccurate physics or rushed development. It also gives the team room to rebuild core systems for the overhauled F1 2027 game, which promises new control options and a deeper racing experience.
With the standalone game postponed, players can expect the F1 25 paid expansion for 2026 to deliver updated season content without requiring a full-price purchase.
