Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar has completed his hospital stay after a sudden health scare during pre-season preparations. The midfielder experienced a heart-related episode while undergoing routine physical tests at Sao Paulo’s training facility last Tuesday.
Sao Paulo issued an official update on Friday. The club announced that Oscar left Einstein Hospital Israelita on Sunday and remained “stable and clinically well” during observation. Doctors then provided clarity on his condition. According to the club, “Extensive investigation carried out at the hospital confirmed that the player experienced an episode of vasovagal syncope.”
Club Explains Diagnosis and Recovery Plan
Vasovagal syncope usually triggers fainting when blood pressure drops quickly. It often appears during stress or exertion, making medical checks crucial for professional athletes.
Sao Paulo outlined the next steps for his recovery. In their statement, they confirmed that Oscar “will now follow a medical rest programme for the next few days”.
Midfielder Expected to Return After Rest Period
Oscar became unwell earlier in the week, which forced the medical team to pause his pre-season schedule. The club plan to reassess his fitness once he completes the advised rest period.
The 34-year-old started his football journey at Sao Paulo before rising to international prominence with Chelsea. After eight successful years in China, he returned to Sao Paulo on a three-year contract running through 2027.
Oscar is expected to rejoin training only after medical clearance, with the club prioritising his full recovery.
