MS Dhoni will once again feature in the IPL. The legendary Chennai Super Kings captain has confirmed his participation in IPL 2026, marking another chapter in his illustrious career. The announcement came directly from CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, who revealed that the veteran wicketkeeper-batter has communicated his availability for the upcoming season.
“MS has told us that he will be available for the next season,” Cricbuzz quoted Kasi Viswanathan as saying.
This confirmation ends months of speculation over Dhoni’s retirement. At 44, the five-time title-winning captain remains the face of CSK in IPL 2026. His return signals the franchise’s intent to bounce back after a disappointing IPL 2025, where Chennai finished last on the table for the first time.
CSK’s campaign last year was derailed when Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury mid-season, forcing Dhoni to reassume leadership duties. Despite his vast experience, the side couldn’t find consistency, and his batting position became a frequent talking point.
Apart from the two suspended seasons, Dhoni has been loyal to Chennai Super Kings throughout his IPL career. He has represented the franchise in 248 matches, accumulating 4,865 runs, and steering them to five championships. The IPL 2026 edition will be his 17th season with CSK and his 19th overall in the tournament.
CSK and Rajasthan Royals Reignite Talks for Sanju Samson
While Dhoni prepares for another season, Chennai’s management is also making moves off the field. According to reports, CSK and Rajasthan Royals have reopened discussions regarding a trade for Sanju Samson.
CSK and Rajasthan Royals have once again re-established contact over a potential trade involving Samson.
Insiders suggest that Sanju Samson is interested in leaving Rajasthan Royals after several seasons with the franchise. Despite ongoing links with Delhi Capitals, his future remains uncertain as multiple teams express interest in the wicketkeeper-batter. Sources cited by Cricbuzz reveal that Rajasthan owner Manoj Badale has held informal talks with other IPL franchises. The discussions reportedly involved Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, CSK, and Delhi Capitals, exploring potential trade opportunities.
One top CSK player has reportedly been asked about his willingness to join Rajasthan as part of the proposed swap deal. Both franchises are expected to finalize their decisions soon, as the retention deadline of November 15 approaches. The mini-auction for IPL 2026 is likely to take place in December.
