Indian cricket is filled with excitement as the Women in Blue claimed their first ICC Women’s World Cup title. It marks a historic and proud moment for the entire nation. Shahbaz Nadeem from the Jharkhand State Cricket Association praised the team’s incredible achievement. He also credited the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for transforming women’s cricket in India.
Speaking to ANI, the left-arm spinner remarked, “India’s victory is huge because it’s the first time our women’s cricket team has won the World Cup. If you look at how women’s cricket has evolved over the last five years, especially after the introduction of the WPL, it has grown tremendously in India.”
Women’s Cricket Rising at the Grassroots
Nadeem expressed hope that this win would encourage more girls to pursue cricket professionally. “I’m currently part of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, and we can clearly see that growth at the grassroots level as well. I’m looking after women’s cricket, and I see so many girls coming in to play — they’re more excited than ever and are now taking it up as a profession. It feels really good to witness that change. And now, after winning the World Cup, I’m sure even more girls will be inspired to take up cricket,” he added.
India’s Long-Awaited Dream Fulfilled
After heartbreaks in 2005 and 2017, India finally fulfilled their dream by winning the ICC Women’s World Cup. They defeated South Africa convincingly by 52 runs in a dominant display of skill and teamwork. Shafali Verma shone with an impressive 87 runs and also claimed two wickets for 36 runs. Deepti Sharma contributed a solid 58 runs and took five wickets for 39 runs in a brilliant all-round show. Their performances captured global attention and inspired millions of fans worldwide.
Focus on Hong Kong Sixes 2025
Shahbaz Nadeem is currently representing India in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 tournament, held from November 7 to 9. The event is taking place at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong. The event features 12 teams. It includes India, Australia, Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, Afghanistan, Nepal, UAE, Kuwait, and hosts Hong Kong.
Discussing his preparation, Nadeem said, “I’m really well-prepared this time. Having played in the tournament last year, I am aware of the mistakes I made and what I need to do as a bowler to improve. I have a clear idea of which areas and deliveries I need to work on. Everyone in the team is ready and excited — we’re all here with one goal, to play our best and win the trophy for India.”
