Iga Swiatek has shed light on what makes the WTA Finals courts distinct from other events on the WTA Tour, noting that the altitude has significantly altered playing conditions. The World No. 2 enters the tournament full of confidence, aiming to lift the trophy once again after her 2023 triumph.
This season, Swiatek has already claimed major victories in Cincinnati, Seoul, and Wimbledon. Now, she hopes to close the year with another big win at the WTA Finals. Having arrived well ahead of the tournament’s start, she was quick to notice how the courts feel unlike anywhere else.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Swiatek said: “I think I was one of the first players that got here.
So, I’m happy that I had a couple of days to practice because the conditions are totally different than on any other tournament with the altitude. So yeah, it’s pretty funny, but, I’m just excited to start my first match tomorrow.”
The Polish star finds herself in a challenging group featuring Amanda Anisimova, Elena Rybakina, and Madison Keys. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff, last year’s champion in Saudi Arabia, stands between Swiatek and another season-ending crown.
Swiatek’s Unbeaten Streak at the 2023 WTA Finals
At the 2023 WTA Finals, Swiatek produced one of the most commanding performances of her career, winning every match in straight sets. She overcame Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, and Markéta Vondroušová during the group stage, showing complete control throughout.
In the semi-finals, she outclassed Aryna Sabalenka, conceding only five games. Swiatek then powered through the final, dismantling Jessica Pegula while dropping just one game to seal the title.
With her sharp form and adaptability to new court conditions, Swiatek looks ready to mount another title run at the WTA Finals 2025, where she hopes to cement her dominance as one of the tour’s most consistent champions.
