The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 Mega Auction will happen in New Delhi in late November, a senior BCCI official told TOI on Thursday. This auction will give franchises a clear opportunity to rebuild squads before the 2026 season. Teams have already started planning their strategies.
“The WPL auction will be conducted either on November 26 or November 27 in Delhi. For the IPL auction, we are exploring two-three cities — both in India and abroad — and will finalise one eventually,” the source revealed.
BCCI Confirms Auction Timeline
BCCI fixed the WPL auction for late November and scheduled the IPL auction for mid-December. This timeline gives franchises more time to prepare. The previous mega auction happened three seasons ago, so this one will reshape team combinations and create new cores for the next cycle.
90 Players in the Auction Pool
The league has five franchises, and each can sign up to 18 players. This structure creates space for nearly 90 cricketers in the pool. Teams will retain only a few marquee players and compete fiercely for the rest. Intense bidding battles are expected, and several squads could look very different when the season starts.
WPL 2026 Moved to January
BCCI moved the WPL 2026 season to January, shifting it from its usual February–March window. The board advanced the schedule to avoid a clash with the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The earlier start ensures players are free for national commitments and gives the league its own spotlight.
A Defining Auction for the League
This year’s WPL 2026 Mega Auction will play a major role in shaping the tournament’s future. Teams will look to balance experienced international stars with emerging Indian talent. A few surprise signings could completely change the balance between franchises. Fans can expect a high-stakes event filled with bold moves, aggressive bids, and fresh rivalries.
The WPL continues to grow as a major platform for women’s cricket. The WPL 2026 Mega Auction will set the stage for another thrilling season.
