Salisbury & Skupski Enter US Open 2025 Men’s Doubles Final

Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski reached the US Open 2025 men’s doubles final after a stunning comeback victory. The sixth-seeded British pair defeated New Zealand’s Michael Venus and India’s Yuki Bhambri 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 on Louis Armstrong Stadium. They now aim to become the first all-British champions at Flushing Meadows since 1903.

Salisbury and Skupski, who teamed up earlier this season, showed immense resilience. They lost the first set in a tie-break and trailed by a break in the second. After the initial setback, they rallied with precision and belief. Their decisive break in the opening game of the third set set the tone for the win.

British History on the Line

The last all-British pair to lift the men’s doubles trophy at the US Open were Laurence and Reginald Doherty in 1903. If successful, Salisbury and Skupski will also follow in the footsteps of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool. The duo won the Wimbledon doubles title earlier this year.

“It’d be great to put that right,” Salisbury said. “There’s been a lot of British Grand Slam titles, but not too many with all-British pairings. It’s great now that there’s a couple of top teams and it’d be great to put our names in the history books as an all-British pairing.”

Opponents in the Final

The British duo will face Spain’s Marcel Granollers and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos in Saturday’s final. Granollers and Zeballos, who defeated them at the French Open, advanced with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Americans Robert Cash and JJ Tracy.

Past Success and Rivalries

Salisbury knows the Flushing Meadows stage well, having won three straight US Open titles from 2021–2023 with American partner Rajeev Ram. One of those victories came against Skupski and Wesley Koolhof. This time, however, the two Brits stand together, chasing history as partners.

Salisbury and Skupski saved two crucial break points at 4-2 in the decider before Skupski confidently served out the match. Their focus now turns to making history as the first all-British US Open men’s doubles winners in over a century.
