Newcastle Sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford in £55m Transfer Deal

Newcastle have secured the signing of Brentford forward Yoane Wissa in a £55m transfer deal. The Magpies agreed to pay an initial £50m plus £5m in add-ons for the DR Congo international. Wissa is now travelling to Tyneside to complete the formalities.

Brentford had rejected two earlier bids from Newcastle, but talks reopened on Monday before the 19:00 BST deadline. The deal comes just a day after Wissa urged the Bees to “keep their word” and allow him to leave.

In a statement on Instagram, Wissa said: “I have stayed silent for much of the summer, but with just hours remaining of the transfer window I feel compelled to make it clear that I want to leave Brentford. I believe the club are unduly standing in my way despite a series of fair offers throughout the summer.”

Newcastle React After Isak’s Liverpool Move

The signing follows Liverpool’s record £125m deal for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. Magpies boss Eddie Howe has been desperate to bolster his forward line, despite recently signing striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart in a club-record move.

Wissa, 28, scored 19 non-penalty goals last season, the highest in the Premier League. His proven scoring record and versatility make him a key addition to Newcastle’s attack.

Brentford Continue Summer Rebuild

Brentford have already sold Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United for £65m, while goalkeeper Mark Flekken joined Bayer Leverkusen for £8m. Midfielder Christian Norgaard also moved to Arsenal in a £15m transfer.

The Bees reinvested with a club-record £42.5m deal for forward Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth. Despite losing several senior players, they managed to hold firm on some targets, with Wolves refusing to sell striker Jorgen Strand Larsen despite bids of up to £55m.

With Isak leaving for Liverpool, the responsibility now shifts to Wissa to lead Newcastle’s front line in the Premier League.
